DESCRIPTION

The magnificent temple (dating 11th century CE), dedicated to Lord Shiva is one of the most ancient in the city of Bhubaneswar.
Lingaraj is mentioned to be as Swayambhu (self-manifested Shivalingam), also known as Hari Hara. The main Shikhar rises to a height of 180 ft. It has been reported as being one of the finest pieces of architecture following the Kalinga School.
Interestingly, the complex is home to 150 smaller shrines. Marvel at the exhaustive plans, measurements, exquisite workmanship and remarkable dimensions. It can be broadly segregated into four main chambers; Garbhagriha (Sanctum Sanctorum), Yajana Mandap (Prayer Hall), Natya Mandap (Dance and Music Hall) and Bhoga Mandap (distribution and consumption of prasad).

Another significant feature here; it symbolizes the reconciliation and unification of Shaivism and Vaishnavism in the state.
