DAKSHINESHWAR KALI MATA
Dakshineshwar Kali Temple is a Hindu navaratna temple in Dakshineshwar, Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Situated on the eastern bank of the Hooghly River, the presiding deity of the temple is Bhavatarini, known as Adishakti Kalika. The temple was built in 1855 by Rani Rashmoni, a Zamindar, and a devotee of Kali Maa. The temple is known for its association with Ramakrishna and Ma Sarada Devi, mystics of the 19th century. Dakshineshwar gets its name from the Sanskrit name the Dak?i?e?vara of Shiva. The temple of Shiva is located around 1.5 km north of the famous Kali temple, at the southern part of Ariadaha. The temple is very important to the Shiva devotees and the Lingam is believed to be Svayambhu. This is the only Kali Ma temple which is south-faced. usually all the deity are east facing. The Temple architecture is little unique and of its kind which depicts cultural aspects of West Bengal. This is dedicated to Maa Kali along with a replica of 12 Jyotirling of Lord Shiva . The temple welcomes millions of devotees all over the year. A special puja and mela or fait is conducted during Durga Puja.
